Hello Void

Hello Void

As a person who finds himself somewhat intertwined with his programmer identity, I started this post with the all-classic title "hello world" -- it was the default choice. Nonetheless, I felt the need to leave some trace of originality, so as to avoid the guilt of unoriginality in my head.

Hello, Void!

I swapped "world" for "void" -- because let's be honest, I'm not exactly writing for the world at the moment. I'm more so using this as a sounding board to get ideas out of my thick skull and in-grain the habit of writing I've always wanted to start but never could. There will be zero promises to continue this forever, but coincidentally this "void" concept takes the pressure off of writing for "some reader," which is a nice side-effect.

My self-introductions are inconveniently long for reasons attributed to my nomadic background, so here's a brief timeline of my life thus far:

  1. born in Taiwan
  2. moved to Hong Kong at age 3, lived there for 8 years
  3. moved to the US at age 11, transferred to a boarding school in Southborough, MA.
  4. moved to Hudson, OH for 2 years of high school
  5. moved to Idyllwild, CA for remaining 2 years of high school
  6. moved to San Antonio, TX for my undergraduate at Trinity University
  7. moved to China for a gap year working at E-commerce startups in Shenzhen
  8. returned to Taiwan for a year to complete my military service (mandatory for male citizens)
  9. returned to Hong Kong to pursue a career shift into Web Development
  10. moved to The Netherlands for a Frontend Engineering role at a Fintech startup (5 years)
  11. returned to Taiwan to be closer to family at the epilogue of the COVID pandemic (3 years)
  12. Met my wife in Tokyo and moved to Japan recently (now 2 years)

So yeah, I guess you could say I'm a bit of a nomad. I've lived in 7 different cities across 5 different countries, and each place has left a mark on my identity.

Okay, that's enough about me for now. Let's see where this "void" takes us next time!

P.S. Copilot actually makes journaling easier now, so maybe I'll write again soon.
